Kate Lanning

Faculty

Kathryn (Kate) Lanning, a native of Colorado, trained at the Arvada Center with Christina Noel-Adcock, Eve Paris, and Lisi Elsey. Kate was an instructor for the Arvada Center’s Dance Department for 26 years, teaching aspiring dancers of all ages (ballet, pointe), was a choreographer for the department’s pre-professional performance company, as well as serving as an instructor for the art-outreach program, Arts Days, and the summer camp program, Arts Sampler (visual arts, creative movement).

Kate was a professional company member with Boulder Ballet for 10 years, performing such featured roles as “Sugar Plum Fairy” in The Nutcracker, “Enchantress” in Beauty and the Beast, “Carabosse” in The Sleeping Beauty, “Sea Witch” in The Little Mermaid, “Bride” in The Crimson Butterfly, and “Galatea,” the lead in the original ballet Pygmalian by Peter Davison. Kate worked with notable choreographers Peter Davison, Barbara Demaree, Kathryn Elliott, Lance Hardin, Chung-Fu Chang, Rosella Capriolo, Valerie Medonia, James Wallace, and Kevin Gael Thomas. She also taught for Boulder Ballet School while she was a Company member (ballet), and then continued to teach for their school outreach program for three years upon retirement (creative movement). Trained in modern dance with established names in the field, Kathryn Elliott, Hannah Kahn, and Kim Robards, and in GYROTONIC® and GYROKINESIS® with GYROTONIC® Bodhi in Boulder for over 10 years now, Kate is a lover of movement, anatomy, of the interconnectedness of the body, and seeks to bring all her experiences into her instruction.

Kate is a licensed elementary school teacher with a BA from Regis University who taught third grade in BVSD for five years before continuing to sub within the BVSD and JeffCo school districts for many years.  A small business artist who loves to paint furniture and walls, her favorite role to date is that of being “Mama” to her young sons, Francis and Oscar.

Spreading beauty, seeking grace, discovering and delighting in personal successes, no matter how small, and providing artistic avenues for self-expression are values held dear to Kate, both as an individual and an instructor.
